Experience authentic Kyoto kaiseki in a renovated machiya, featuring dashi made from Kyoto well water at this Michelin-starred restaurant.

A two-minute walk from Marutamachi Station, a stone-paved, narrow approach leads to a light, elegant-colored Noren curtain. Its name is Kyoyuke Yokika read morena, a restaurant offering authentic Kyoto-style kaiseki cuisine in a renovated machiya (traditional townhouse). The chef, Mr. Yoshiakira Sasai, who honed his skills at a long-established ryotei restaurant, is so talented as to win a Michelin star. Mr. Sasai places the greatest importance on the dashi broth made from Kyoto's well water. As the water is soft and the broth easily permeates it, customers say that dashi alone is enough to accompany sake. The soup bowls made with this broth and Tai Gohan (rice cooked with sea bream) with the head of the sea bream are must-try items. Private rooms with a garden view and vermilion-lacquered counter seats are availabe for a variety of occasions. The staff warmly welcomes you with open hearts. learn more from chef
