Area Map
Kujukuri is a long Pacific coastline of sandy beach along the Boso Peninsula. "Ri" in "Kujukuri" is a unit of distance, approximately 4 kilometers. "Kujuku" means 99, so Kukukuri means 99-ri, about 396 km. The actual length of the coastline is 66 km, far shorter than the literal length. It was named that way just because the beach seemed to be that long. The area is popular for marine sports like surfing, but you can also enjoy clamming. Sardine fishing is popular at Kujukuri, too. You can taste the local specialties such as a soup with sardine dumplings and sangayaki (frying chopped sardine mixed with potherb and miso paste) at the local restaurants.
