Aizuwakamatsu
Traditional townscape with a full of cultural and historic ambience.
Area Map
There are two hot springs in Aizu-Wakamatsu; Higashiyama and Ashinomaki. The fountainhead of Higashiyama hot spring is said to have been found some 1,300 years ago. It is close to a city area, and a series of Japanese style inns alongside the mountain stream makes an elegant ambience. Ashinomaki hot spring is in the middle of the magnificent nature with a beautiful view that changes by season. After easing your fatigue in the hot spring, it’s a good idea to stroll around the town center. You can stroll on the Nanokamachi Street where there are many historic warehouses, western style houses, and merchant houses built more than 100 years ago. There are many restaurants on the street, too, including Japanese, Italian and French cuisine, as well as the local dishes, so you can not only enjoy the old but new townscape but also a variety of foods as you like it.
