Enoshima

A small island of legend and worship
watched over by a goodess of arts and wisdom.

Area Map

Enoshima
Enoshima is a small island of 4 kilometers circumference. It has a long history as a place of Bhuddhistic austerities as well as an island of Benzaiten (goodess of arts and wisdom) worship. The Enoshima Shrine where the Enoshima Benzaiten is enshrined is still popular as a goodess of love knot. You can enjoy strolling the small island on the promenade. The end point is "Enoshima Iwaya Caves" where itinerant priests used to complete their ascetic practices. You can experience a mysterious atmosphere inside the dim cave surrounded by the naked rock wall and stone Buddhist images.
