The State Guest House in Akasaka was originally built as a Crown Prince residence in 1909. It is the only neo-baroque style building in Japan, designed and built by the leading architects and craftsmen of those days. Since 1974, the luxurious building has been used as a hospitality facility to welcome and provide world-class accommodation and services to state guests like kings, presidents, and prime ministers from all over the world. Every year the State Guest House is open to the public for about ten days in August.
