Area Map

Motsuji Temple
The garden of Motsuji temple is said to have been designed to recreate the world of Buddha. Oizumigaike-pond is at the center of the garden, artificial hills are positioned around the pond, and rocks are deliberately placed at the bridge piers, the small promontory of the pond, and in the pond. This is called “dry landscape garden style,” and the garden and monastery remains have kept their appearance since they were built in the Heian period, about 800 years ago. At the Cultural Asset Repository, you can see the statues of Buddha made in the Heian period, artworks, excavated artifacts, and research materials. The breathtaking landscape is sure to refresh your feeling.
