Mt. Tsurugi
Mt. Tsurugi is called “the ridge of Shikoku Island” and is the highest peak in Tokushima. It has an elevation of 1,955 m and the second highest mountain in West Japan. The name comes from a legend that in ancient times then Emperor Antoku hid a sword (“tsurugi”) in the mountain. It is a sacred mountain and used to be closed to women until the early Showa Period. Now, the lift will bring you near the mountaintop, it is just one-hour trip to the summit though, you can feel the vast nature and mysterious sacred power of the mountain.
