St. Francis Xavier of the Society of Jesus was the person who brought Christianity to Japan in 16th century. St. Francis Xavier Memorial Church was built in 1952 to celebrate the 400th year’s anniversary of his visit to Yamaguchi. The first Romanesque style church was destroyed by a fire in 1991. In April 1998, a new church with modern design was built based on donations from many people. Themes of the church with symbolic two towers are water, light, and tent. At the Christian Memorial Hall you can learn the footprint of St. Francis Xavier.
