Famous for Hokusai’s ukiyoe.

Area Map

Amidaga-taki Waterfall
Amidaga-taki waterfall is the most famous waterfall in Tokai region, south of Tokyo on Pacific Ocean side of Japan. It represents a nationally known hot spring, and Katsushika Hokusai drew the waterfall in ukiyoe in Edo period. You can walk on the promenade around the waterfall basin and feel the full impact of the dynamic waterfall. The 60 m high and 7 m wide waterfall seems far larger than the figures.
It’s been regarded as a place of ascetic practices, but ordinary people can participate in an ascetic practice of sitting under the waterfall during “Misogi Matsuri” festival in July. The festival will offer you a great opportunity for purifying your body and soul. However, the water will be far colder and hit stronger than you imagine, so you don’t have to take it if you don’t feel like it. The mysterious atmosphere will give you sufficient relaxing effect just by standing by the waterfall and watching it.
