, Hie Shrine was constructed more than 500 years ago as the guardian deity of Edo (ancient Tokyo). The annual festival held in June, Sanno festival, is one of the three major festivals in Japan together with the Gion Festival in Kyoto and the Tenjin Festival in Osaka.
