One of the best places to visit in Tokyo,
a historic temple retaining the ancient Edo atmosphere.

Area Map

Sensoji Temple
Once you walk through under the big red paper lantern at the Kaminarimon gate, you find yourself in another world as if you're back in the Edo Period. Alongside the Nakamise-dori street are crowded with more than fifty small shops including Edo toys, Edo confectionery, traditional folding fans, traditional foot wares and souvenirs, welcoming thousands of tourists every day. You can buy Japanese traditional towels and senjafuda (slips of paper posted on shrine pillars by pilgrams), making the best souvenirs to your friends. Then you reach the symbol of Asakusa, Sensoji temple. The temple is always full of visitors with festivals throughout the year including the Hozuki (Chinese lantern plant) festival in July and Hagoita (battledore) festival in December.
