ASIA FASHION AWARD 2018 in TAIPEI: Winners announced for the first time Richie Lin from [MUME] in Taipei won on the food category

ASIA FASHION AWARD 2018 in TAIPEI was held at the front of Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall on December 1st (Sat), 2018. In total of 80 musicians, models, and creators from all across the Asian countries and over 100 press corps from around the world gathered for this event. Among the participants were Takuya Kimura, a famous Japanese actor and Jolin Tsai, a popular Taiwanese musician. This fascinating “ASIA FASHION AWARD 2018 in TAIPEI” will be reported by SAVOR JAPAN staff.

Spreading Asian Culture to the World: “ASIA FASHION AWARD 2018 in TAIPEI”

Beginning at Taipei in 2016, “ASIA FASHION AWARD” upholds the theme of “Asia is firing up the future” by delivering a cutting-edge culture from various categories－music, art, fashion, food, technology, and etc.

Every year, the event draws attention with its eye-grabbing location. Previously on 2016 and 2017, the fashion award took place at a rooftop bar with Taipei 101 on back and at an above-water stage/runway specially installed on the rooftop pool-bar of W Taipei hotel.

The location shifted to Liberty Square of National Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall at Taipei for this year, having constructed 100-meter tall “beachwalkers.×AFA Special Dome.” The contrast of monochrome black interior and the white light from the ceiling is indeed of brilliance.

The audiences welcomed the appearance of Takuya Kimura and Lin Chi-ling with a big applause（C）2018AFA / beachwalkers.

This year being the third, the first to make appearance was the former Taiwan tourism ambassador, Takuya Kimura and probably the most popular model in Taiwan, Lin Chi-ling. They made a surprise appearance as ambassadors for this event.

Then comes the main event, the newly-established award ceremony. Three awardees were introduced for their contribution to future creation.

With his use of Taiwanese ingredients in his original dishes, Richie Lin is grabbing attention by promoting Asian gastronomic culture to the world. His restaurant Mume was the No.18 on “Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants 2018.” Currently, he is one of the chefs gaining a significant momentum.

It is not too much say that Richie Lin’s MUME exemplifying “ONE ASIA” that the event upholds.

After the ceremony, we fortunately had a chance to interview him.

“With so many stars at present, this event was a bit overwhelming, because it is far from where I spend my daily life at. I am honored to be invited to such a great place,” Lin reflected the ceremony with a smile. It seems that he is liberated from the pressure on stage.

He touches on Taiwan with an ambition of a specialist, “I am pleased from the fact that Taiwan is gaining attention. In terms of food culture in this country, there are still many possibilities left to be uncovered. A lot of chefs are great and Taiwan is a gold-mine of ingredients.”

“I am currently placing an eye on food ingredients of the ethnic minorities, and adopting them to my food. There are still many foods that are yet to be discovered” he commented about the future with great enthusiasm.

Upon Lin receiving the award, ambassador Takuya Kimura gave an encouraging message, “With food, a category that unifies countries, I hope that you will continue to realize One Asia.”

“ASIA FASHION AWARD 2018 in TAIPEI” is an event that ties Asia through culture. It links with Savor Japan’s mission and aspiration, “Make a vibrant interaction with Asia through food.” We anticipate for further development of “ONE ASIA” project.
