It's said that whoever comes to Okinawa can't possibly leave without trying Okinawa Soba (noodles). Okinawa Soba tastes different depending on where you try it, so it's quite a complex dish. There's a variety of flavors, such as traditional flavors and extremely unique flavors. The noodles, as well as the ingredients they use as toppings, vary from place to place. Below is a collection of popular restaurants where you can try Okinawa soba and Okinawan cuisine.
1. Yagiya
Not only does our soba (buckwheat noodles) feature heaps of aasa (a type of Japanese seaweed) as a topping, but the aasa is also kneaded into the buckwheat noodles themselves to give the dish a hearty ocean fragrance. Enjoy it paired harmoniously with our naturally-flavored dashi broth. The aasa used in our Aasa Soba is a product of Kitanakagusuku, a village famous for the product. The seaweed is treated thoroughly with water, resulting in a fine aroma, smooth texture, and a pleasant fragrance. Our theme is to go above and beyond the expectations of those guests who've traveled from afar to dine with us. We emphasize not only our fine flavors, but our charming atmosphere, and warm Okinawan service and hospitality. Our building was constructed in Ryukyuan style, shortly after WWII. With the Ryukyuan red tiles, hibiscus flowers, and the Shiisaa statue on the roof, a scene that is quintessentially Okinawan will unfold before your eyes.

Their [Bajiru Soba], which uses chewy Kamehama soba, has a reputation that reaches far and wide. Using protein-rich, low-fat horse meat from Kumamoto Prefecture, along with dashi (broth) that's made by slowly simmering vegetables, pork bones, and katsuobushi (bonito flakes) over 4 - 5 hours, [Bajiru Soba] is topped with generous cuts of horse meat and mugwort. Only 38 bowls of this recommended dish are made each day!
You can taste awamori (Okinawan liquor) with a variety of small dishes of distinctly Okinawan food.
The restaurant doubles as an Okinawa Soba restaurant at lunch time, and an izakaya (Japanese pub) at dinner time. They are both appealing!

This restaurant that specializes in Okinawa Soba and home cuisine uses Agu pork and dashi made from skipjack tuna to create their homemade Okinawa Soba. It is near the Moon Beach in Onna-son. Their soba, as well as their a-la-carte and set menus, reflects true traditional Okinawan home cooking, served to perfection in an old private house-style restaurant.
Lunch time is from 11:00 am - 2:00 pm.
The old-fashioned private home interior creates a very nostalgic and calming atmosphere.
